Educational aid for the children of Southern Africa

         Registered Charity No.1142647

News March 2010

The EACHSA Charitable Trust is in its infancy. Our home page tells the story of what prompted its founding. Suffice it to say here that we just want to send books to schools and children who simply have none. The Trust may be in its infancy, but progress in the month since it was started has been remarkable.

The response to our requests for children’s books has been stupendous and we have enough for our first shipment – but of course we need to raise more money to meet shipping costs.

As a new Charity our first priority has been to put in place the necessary procedures and systems to enable us to comply with our Declaration of Trust and Government Regulations. Not least of these are Liability Insurance to protect the Trust and its Volunteers: policies for Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Young People, and, of course, Manual Handling – books are heavy! And bank accounts and a PayPal account to receive donations. More details below.

Our second priority has been to raise funds to pay for shipping costs. Ideas are coming in thick and fast and we are hopeful that our first shipment will be made in April to arrive in Johannesburg in June when Professor Bergman will be there to receive it and oversee distribution.

Our third priority is to raise enough income to become a Registered Charity – for which we need a gross income of £5,000 pa. This will mean that for every £1 donated we would receive £1.28. This we hope to achieve by the end of 2010.
